Powerful Openings: How to Grab and Hold ‘Em From Page One
This workshop covers key components in crafting compelling and riveting openings. We’ll look at the first page as ‘opener,’ the first 2-3 pages as ‘opener,’ and the first 50 pages as ‘opener, and will discuss overarching concepts as well as specific strategies for engaging the reader.
From doing the unexpected to engaging the reader’s emotions to raising questions, we’ll cover a variety of techniques that can help you craft powerful, readable openings, the kind that make readers want to keep turning pages.
Active participation is encouraged in this 2 week course, and we plan to have a lot of fun. We’ll practice the strategies we're learning on our own works, and use real-life examples from published books to explore what works, what doesn’t and why.
